Toronto Real Estate: Finding the Perfect Neighbourhood for the First -Time Home Buyer

You have decided to take the leap into becoming a homeowner. Youve done your homework, you can recite the CMHC fee schedule, you can calculate land transfer tax in your head, and you have even bought the DVD box set of Flip this House.

But what about choosing a neighbourhood?

While personal considerations such as living close to family (or keeping a comfortable distance from them) may limit your selection to only a few Toronto neighbourhoods, there are otherwise over two hundred communities across the city from which to choose. Here is a sampling of some of the more popular neighbourhoods for first time home buyers:

Riverdale and Danforth Village

From Broadview to Woodbine, straddling the first few streets on either side of the Danforth, and Danforth Village combine to offer a selection of stylish entry-level character homes. Perfect for the young urban dweller with a disdain for the uniformity of suburbia, this area offers convenient subway access, cool Danforth dining and shopping, and a range of prices for every budget. Riverdale is superb both for finding homes with great bones for the ambitious do-it-yourselfer, and finding magazine-quality renos for those you want to just move in and impress their friends.

Riverdale and Danforth Village Real Estate Values: Entry-level Danforth Village homes range from $250-400,000 while entry Riverdale homes range from $400,000-550,000.

East York

The portion of East York spanning from the Danforth north to OConnor Drive offers some of the best value in all of Toronto. It is still possible to find homes for under $325,000 that are on quiet streets, are close to the subway, and that dont give you an icky feeling when you step inside. The author can personally attest that East York is a very pleasant place to live, as it is where she bought her first two homes!

Thinking about eventually either having a family, or needing more space? Consider one of the traditional East York bungalows, and then have one of the rapid renovation companies that specialize in topping-up bungalows add a second floor when you need it. (This is also a respectable way to add value to your investment; some of these topped-up bungalows are fetching $500-600,000 on resale).

East York Real Estate Values: While some semis and small detached homes can be found for as low as the $250-300,000 range, a much greater selection is between $300-400,000.

Harbourfront

Who said that just because you are a first time homebuyer, you cant have a view of the water and be right in downtown Toronto? While you cant expect a sprawling Harbourfront condo penthouse for under $200,000, there are bachelors and junior one-bedroom units in contemporary buildings with excellent facilities that sell for as little as $180,000. In addition to building amenities, you have Harboufronts cultural attractions and Lake Ontarios outdoor activities outside your door, with streetcars and the downtown only steps away.

Davisville Village

Right in the middle of the city, Davisville Village offers some of the best-priced housing options within the desirable Yonge Street corridor. Offering the convenience of a brief subway ride to downtown, Yonge St. shopping, and loads of fun restaurants and pubs, Davisville Village has been attracting young buyers looking for their first home or condo. The hoards of singles in their twenties and thirties who reside in the numerous condos near Yonge and Eglinton are what have earned the neighbourhood the moniker of Young and Eligible.

Davisville Real Estate Values: Entry-level condominiums have been recently selling from close to $200k, while semi-detached homes start at around $400,000.

Other Neighbourhoods

From Don Valley Village to the Upper Beach, Toronto offers dozens of affordable and convenient neighbourhoods that are excellent for the first-time home buyer. Read full profiles on these and other communities by visiting: http://www.rebeccalaing.ca/Toronto_Real_Estate_Map

How To Value Your Antique Clocks

Antique Longcase clocks like antique artwork or other collectable items are so individual in nature that it is almost impossible to make a fixed valuation on them. Unlike motor vehicles there is no standard value list guide, antique clocks hopefully go up in value, whereas motorcars depreciate the moment you drive them off the sales room forecourt

A price asked for and offered is determined by the personal interest of the seller and the buyer, and also on the market trend, but it is interesting to note that the antique markets, like all other markets are cyclical and are in and out of vogue.

The antique market seems to be correlated to the housing market. When the housing market is in a boom period the antique market is in a slump, which has been the case in the UK for the last twelve years. People have been investing their money into bricks and mortar and not putting their money inside their homes.

It is inevitable that at some time the housing market will reach a bubble, and house prices will stabilise or fall and people will once again put their money where it will make the most gain, into a rising market, antiques. This housing cycle is about fifteen years in the UK so by the end of this year 2007 or into early next year we should see interest in the antique market increase and the value of works of art and collectables go up.

It is interesting to note that although the antique market has been in decline for a number of years, in the antique furniture industry, clocks have held there own with a small increase in value and sales are still strong. This I believe is because we look upon a clock especially a grandfather clock, as a working living piece, to which we form a bond and get attached to it as it seems to have a heart, but not so the chest of draws or tallboy.

There is also the fact that there is no capital gains tax on clocks which makes it a great investment as clock prices have been rising at about 10% a year which is better than some pension plans and stocks.

You can find many publications on the value of antique clocks but these never seem to be current and never take into consideration regional variations, they mostly only cover the top end of the market which are high value pieces. One of the best places to find the current range of prices for clocks is at your local sales and auctions, you can go there and compare your clock like for like to the ones being sold, remembering that variations on movement and dials, also type and quality of case can make a great difference in valuation.

If you don't have the time to spend at the auction most auction houses publish a catalogue which they will mail to you, and by consulting this you will get a guide for the reserved price which as been placed by the seller. Many reputable auction houses do have professional appraisers and valuing service but this is not always free. You can find a full list of UK and global antique and auction sales from antiquestradegazette.com where you can get live auction prices and view the many current catalogues online. Also take a look at antiqueclockspriceguide.com for comparisons.

It goes without saying stay clear of dealers actively engaged in buying and selling antiques as I'm sure you can understand they have only there own interests at heart.

Always use professional appraisers attached to sales rooms, and official appraisers of local probate courts usually can give prevailing price values.

Direct Success With A Computer Programming Degree

A computer programming degree is one of the most sought after degrees in the field of information technology. While it is often mistaken as one of the easier areas of IT, the truth of the matter is: those who do not have an aptitude for detail or the ability to think in an abstract manner may not find it as easy as they assume it is. A computer programmer is one who, like other hands on vocations, must work with extreme precision and craftsmanship.

At the same time, many people choose computer programming because it is not a deep or multi faceted subject as that of chemistry, physics or other material sciences. While computer science has its own theories, it is not the center of the world for computer programming. Many enjoy computer programming for its physical, hands on approach.

One of the things that can make earning a computer programming degree much easier is a natural tendency for paying attention to detail. Unknown to many, computers are simple machines that will only do as they are instructed. A programmer whose job is to set forth directives knows that leaving out even the smallest part of information can cause major problems.

Another helpful skill to have is that of a good memory. The number of variables that go into a computer program concerning syntax, functions, bugs, solutions and much more can be quite staggering. However, the more information and data one can remember on their own, the more successful their career will be.

Some would say the most crucial skill for this line of work is being able to keep a number of complex working systems in mind all at once. While this will take some time and skill to master, it is one of the great traits of a computer programmer. This ability to think abstractly can help with programs exhibiting up to 1,000,000 or more lines of code.

Typically, a Bachelor's degree is required for many entry-level positions in this field. Those who graduate with a Bachelor's degree will have training in analytics and the implementation of computer systems as well as maintenance and even design. With this type of computer programming degree one may find themselves with career opportunities in software programming, network programming or website programming.

A master's degree in computer programming allows graduates to implement high-level software programs. Because of the ever-changing world of technology, they often design software for business environments that greatly rely on technology as well. While being trained in a number of different programs, those with Master's degrees also put their leadership skills into use as the head or director of IT departments.

Whether opting for a Bachelor's or Master's, many in this field find they have the benefit of one of the highest earning powers of any industry available. With such a heavy dependence on computers and technology, the demand for such professionals is in just about every area on the map. There is no doubt that this is a strong profession with a solid future.

This type of degree means always getting to be at the forefront of the latest changes. Programmers must also earn certifications in certain programs and update them regularly to keep up with the newest technologies. Many in this field enjoy the opportunity to continue learning and the ongoing training needed in this fast paced world.

A computer programming degree encompasses so much that many in this field find their career constantly evolving right along with technology. There are so many different areas in which to branch out and grow, there is no worry of ever becoming bored or getting stuck in a rut. Programmers have the fulfillment that comes with seeing their work have a positive effect.

7 Tips BITS For Beginners In Affiliate Programmes

Numerous affiliate programmes have risen lately and if you are now partaking in it you need to note these important tips to succeed in your business.

1. Read Around: Read a lot about your new programme from recommended books, magazines, website etc as this will help you to understand whatever your personal trainer will be taking you through. If you understand, you can guide others who join the programme through you to establish and progress.

2. Dont subscribe to too many programmes: It is not advisable to subscribe to too many programmes initially because you will get scared by the numerous e-mails and may give up. So learn to crawl before you walk. Take one step at a time to get to your final destination.

3. Set working hours: It is so vital to set the number of hours you can spend each day on your affiliate programme and keep to it as religiously as you can. Try to stick to the set number of hours and sooner than you expect it will become part and parcel of your daily routine.

4. Rules /Obligations: Understand the rules and specification of the site you are affiliated to. This is because each site has its specific demands and rules and a beach or non conformity to any of these out of ignorance will cost you. It can result in being taken off the programme or loosing you commission or something else as spelt out by the mother site.

5. Settle with a mode of payment: It is very important that you settle with an acceptable mode of payment as soon as you think of doing an affiliate programme .This is because you will necessarily buy services from numerous businesses. You would also receive some commission which needs to be directed to a named account. Infact you need to find out exactly what is acceptable at both national and international basis.

6. Tracking: There is the need to put in place a tracking system to be able to monitor all the businesses you deal with in terms of how effective their services you are using is promoting your business or other wise. It will also help you to check on your commissions to find out if you are receiving all that is required of you.

7. You are responsible for your actions: I mean you cannot blame any second or third party if you take steps that land you into disaster. You will be guided and advised but try to decide whether you really want to do as you have learnt about.

All You Need to Know About Swiss Banking

There is a common misconception that people who cannot store their unaccounted wealth in their own country open accounts in Swiss banks. Even though this may be true to an extent, Swiss banks are well known for their sophisticated and discreet banking services.

Many of the rich and famous like film stars, business entrepreneurs, top government officials, presidents, etc, are reputed to have Swiss bank accounts. Then again, it is also said one need not be a multi-millionaire to open a Swiss bank account.

Brief Background of the Swiss Banking System

One of the most prosperous and economically advanced nations, Switzerland has the worlds largest gross domestic product (GDP). There are nearly 400 banks in Switzerland, which range from the Two Big Banks, to smaller banks, serving single communities or selective clients. Considered as the worlds largest offshore financial center, the Swiss banking sector is renowned for its privacy, stability and protection of their customers information and assets. The Federal Banking Commission (FBC) regulates these banks.

Opening a Swiss Account

Often freely available, a Swiss bank account provides total confidentiality, strict privacy, and is tax-free. However, certain documents are required as proof to open a Swiss account. For example, people who are not residents of Switzerland need to furnish their passports, along with a passport size photograph. Depending on the profession, a current bank statement would be required to determine the clients current financial condition. Along with this, certain personal information, like the date of birth, country of origin, etc., is also required.

A useful feature of Swiss banking is that it can also be done via correspondence as long as the customers follow bank rules and regulations. The bank and customer could interact through the Internet, telephone or snail mail.

However, a drawback of Swiss banking is that non-residents are expected to pay a hefty amount as deposit, and, the smaller accounts are more expensive to maintain. There is a clause especially for US citizens wherein they are expected to refrain from making any business transaction through their Swiss accounts, to keep their account privacy intact.

Deposit

A security deposit is needed in case the customer wants to obtain a credit card. Approximately 1.5 to 2 times the monthly credit limit is demanded, depending on the bank the customer chooses. This deposit is returned when the customer decides to discontinue the credit card, and has paid all outstanding bills.

Confidentiality

There are legends about mysterious numbered accounts in Swiss banks. Some high security bank accounts are given pseudonyms or special names instead of issuing them in the name of the customer, to preserve the anonymity of the customer. This number or name is used wherever the customer is referred. Moreover, even bank employees are expected to respect the customers privacy, the failure of which could land them in prison for several months.

However, Swiss banks, being very particular about preventing money laundering, crosscheck the authenticity of the information provided by the customer. If, during the scrutiny, the bank finds the information of a potential or existing customer connected to some criminal activity, a Swiss judge or prosecutor issues a lifting order. These investigations could include international criminal investigation for tax fraud, insider trading, or the infamous terrorist financing of recent times.

Closing of an Account

Despite a few negative notions about Swiss banking, closing an account is said to be easier than expected. No financial penalty is demanded, and neither is the money held hostage, like it is done in other off shore banking.

To conclude, the secrecy and discreet nature of Swiss banking makes them convenient and dependable. This not only helps customers to save money, but also is a viable means of attaining economic superiority in the business world and society as a whole.

Help, I Am New To The Idea Of Being An Affiliate

So you are still new to the idea of making money online as an affiliate. Maybe you have a few doubts; wondering if this is really as easy as they say. This is a good start for success. Never take anything at face value, but do not allow doubt to cause you to miss one of the biggest opportunities of your life. Can everybody be successful with making money online? I do not think so. The problem is not the business, as thousands of successful online marketers show, but simply the fact that people do not all have the same drive, persistence and patience. Some will start this business with a big fanfare and lots of energy, just loosing hope after a few weeks of no income. They will not be successful, but I believe you can be.

The question is how sorely do you want to be successful? We all love the idea of being financially free, we all dream of a big house, nice car, exotic vacation spots, but for most of us it feels as if it will only remain a dream unless we do something to change that. Real opportunities to make money are quite scarce. We can all start our own little business in our backyards, but success will most probably not be great since all businesses need customers to survive, and a little business in my backyard would probably not attract thousands of shoppers daily.

The online market is huge and it is possible to attract thousands of visitors daily to one site, although not as easy as it sounds, but still possible. With only a computer and a dialup account you can achieve an income that is not easily duplicated through normal means. There is enough proof of online millionaires, people like you, who made it big with online business, to confirm this possibility.

And luckily for us most of them decided to share some of their knowledge and hard earned experiences with us. This can really help you get started by getting a step by step feel for how to make money online. Do not be duped into thinking that it is easy or quick. There are some who made it big in a few short weeks, as in any other type of business, but they are the exception, not the rule. If you want to make it big in online business, get ready to take it slow, and to work quite hard at it.

But if you keep at it, building your business everyday you will be amazed at the amount of money your business could start bringing in. If you build a good foundation in the beginning you will be almost assured to have a long time income with little further effort. But to get there you must be prepared to study the different opportunities and methods available. You will probably be bombarded with emails and other materials of people telling you how to make it big quickly, but be careful that is one of the strategies you will learn to use to advertise your own money making business. Some of these emails or materials will contain invaluable information, but some will not. Sift through them carefully. Do not spend money on the first person promising you millions.

One truth is that everybody can learn how to make money online. But to succeed will cost you some time and effort. But then again, everything in life that is worth it takes time and effort. If the thought of working quite hard and diligently with patience and endurance scare you, then you probably will not make real money online. If hard work does not bother you then go for it. Who know what your bank balance may look like in a year or so. You can always visit my site for some ideas that are available. Good luck to you.

Creating Your Own Affiliate Business

An excellent and rather simple way to start a business or add income flow to your existing business is to start an affiliate business. An affiliate business offers an individual the opportunity to become an affiliate, or business sales partner. An affiliate is paid a certain amount of money for either a click through from the partnering web site; a fixed amount for a lead generated by an ad on the affiliate's web site; or a percentage of a purchase made by a visitor as a result of a click through created by the affiliate.

There are two ways to successfully create your own affiliate business.

1. Creating an Affiliate Business Promoting Other Businesses

If you have a web site with a decent amount of traffic, and you have time on your hands to search out some great affiliate programs and continue to increase your web site traffic, then you might consider starting an affiliate business promoting other merchants. While this is not a get-rich-quick scheme by any means, it can, over time, generate a fair amount of income.

Promoting your chosen affiliate business partners can be a tedious process, and can become a bit tricky at times. While banner ads are often the preferred method of promotion by an affiliate business, choose an affiliate business that also works with you to provide text links and other forms of communications, such as enewsletters and email, to promote click throughs. Other promotion options that have proven successful for many affiliates include pop ups, which can work well, but are often blocked or closed even before they've loaded, as well as pop unders, which tend to show more success simply because when an internet user discovers them, they've already loaded and can be seen in detail before they're closed. This allows the viewer a short amount of time to consider clicking on the link to get more information.

While it is certainly possible to search for each affiliate business individually, and sign up for each one individually, a streamlined way that can become very successful is to work with a company such as OffersQuest.com, an affiliate business that works with many different affiliate partners. Companies such as this offer dozens of programs covering everything from shoes to ecommerce solutions, and can offer a variety of affiliate business advertising options, including both banners and text links.

Before signing on as an affiliate business partner, however, be sure to only consider links for products and services that promote and complement your current business and web site. For example, a site dedicated to home schooling information will not do well as a casino affiliate. On the other hand, a site dedicated to marketing and advertising may actually see improved web traffic and visitor stats from an affiliate business link related to an ecommerce merchant.

Another thing to keep in mind is that many search engines, including Yahoo!, may not allow your site into their listings if your site consists mostly of affiliate links. Too many affiliate links will litter your site, making it difficult to focus on your site's content and the true nature of your site as well, so choose only a small amount of select affiliate business partners in which to work. Focus on the success of those select affiliate businesses rather than many different affiliate business links.

2. Creating an Affiliate Business Promoting Your Own Business

If you're a web merchant and have a great product or service to promote, it's safe to consider implementing your own affiliate business by promoting affiliates to join on as your sales team. The steps involved in becoming an affiliate business will take time and even money, especially with choosing and installing affiliate tracking software, but can, in the long run, become a very profitable and viable business expansion. However, the most time consuming step in owning an affiliate business where you're promoting your own products or services is recruiting affiliates into your program.

A good way to promote your affiliate business program is through increasing your own web traffic. Consider reciprocal linking strategies with sites that complement your business or the nature of your business. Links to your site from a popular site not only increases the rate of visitors from that site, but is also a factor used by many of the world's most popular search engines when calculating rankings. There are software packages that can choose links for you, but because they're expensive, if you have the time to look yourself, choose that route instead.

Once you have an affiliate business team in place, be supportive of your team so that they can generate the sales that you need and desire. Offer a variety of web banners to choose for posting on their web sites, as well as text links and other advertising options that are easily accessible for your affiliates. Respond to their communications quickly. Pay them on time. Offer suggestions to help them increase their web site traffic, their click throughs, and ultimately, their commissions. By working closely with your affiliate business sales people, you'll bring them success in working with you - and in turn, will bring in increased sales for your business.

A wise merchant knows that good sales affiliates are rare, and treats them with respect, assisting them with resources and providing prompt commission payments. A wise affiliate knows that an affiliate business merchant wants quality promotion and sales performance for a minimal cost. With these two statements in mind, the only successful merchant and affiliate partnerships are struck when both parties understand these points and work hard at working together, resulting in profits for both parties.

Tips on Changing Careers - Establishing a Workable Career Plan

7 Steps to Help You Change Careers and Establish a Workable Career Plan

If you are thinking of a career change or if you are trying to lay out a tangible career plan for yourself, there are several important things to consider.

Step One Self Assessment

Self-Assessment is an important first step in considering where you are currently and discovering what direction you would like to go in the future. Some questions you might ask yourself include:

* What are my interests and aptitudes?
* What are my strengths and weaknesses?
* What are my major personality traits?
* Do I have areas of interest outside my current field?

Step Two Consider Career Assessment Testing

Have you ever considered taking a Career Assessment Test? There are many of these tests available on the Internet that can be easily accessed and completed free of charge. This can be a great starting point to help you discover areas of interest that you might not have considered before.

Step Three Set Goals and Objectives

It is also important to discover your goals and objectives for the future. Not only do you need to think about where you are in your current career, but also where you want to go, and how, when, and where you would like to advance in the future. In considering your own goals and objectives, some possible questions to consider are these:

* Where am I in my current career?
* What are the possibilities for advancement?
* Do I want to remain in the field I am currently in, or would I really like to pursue something of greater interest?
* Is there something else Ive always really wanted to do?
* If I remain in the same area, what steps will I need to take for advancement?
* Are there credentials or certifications that would be helpful?
* Do I need to upgrade my degree to a higher level?
* Do I need to earn a degree in a completely different field

Step Four Make a List of Possibilities

Making a list of all the possibilities that you are interested in considering is another helpful exercise. Start by listing all the jobs you might be interested in pursuing. If you have no qualifications in your areas of interest, think about what your options are for obtaining them. Can you attend classes locally or would online learning be a better choice for you? Many times your current family and work responsibilities weigh heavily on the choice for the convenience of online learning.

Step Five Research Your Favorite Careers

After you have a list of possible interesting careers, choose your favorites and begin researching them. There is, of course, a wealth of knowledge on the Internet, but another great avenue is to talk to people who currently work in the field in which you are interested. You can also consider making an appointment with a career counselor at a local college or community college for assistance. Your local library is always an option -- peruse the librarys collection of career guide books. Researching should give you a better perspective and understanding of the careers that interest you and what steps you will need to take in order to pursue a new career.

Step Six Narrow Your Choices

Once the research phase is complete, you must narrow your choices down and consider the pros and cons of each one. This will help you to make specific choices that you can begin to pursue.

Step Seven - Determine Educational Requirements

Once you make the choice, it is time to begin seriously considering the education options available to you. Begin by discovering what type of major is associated with the field and consider whether a minor would be beneficial in any way. Many careers do not require a degree; you can get into certain fields with certificates or diplomas. Once you establish yourself in the area of interest, you can continue to upgrade your credentials with certifications and even earn a degree online while you continue your work.

Ultimate Money Maker or Ultimate Scam? My review of Ultimate Wealth Package

So youve heard about Mark Warrens Ultimate Wealth Package and you want to know if it can make you money.

Most likely, the reason why youre here is to receive an opinion from someone who has used this product.

Before you get started, you should know that you will not make money overnight. Ultimate Wealth Package is not a get rich quick scheme and they dont claim to be. Success with package will take time and effort. There is a learning curve to this system and your success will depend on how hard you work at it.

Lets start with the good points:

Ultimate Wealth Package offers in-depth insight into the world of affiliate marketing. It covers everything from creating ad campaigns and maintaining customer loyalty through opt-in lists. For those who are just entering the field, Ultimate Wealth Package is an information gold mine. The package shows you step by step how to build up your online business. They even include a free website with their package.

As an added bonus, Ultimate Wealth Package packs a ton of extra goodies, especially for those who opt for the VIP package. Among these bonuses are over 100 extra e-books (covering a wide variety of topics on how to make money online), software packages, and audio interviews with marketing experts. UWP even offers 24 hour, toll-free phone support, a feature that I have not seen with any other wealth package.

Unfortunately, UWP is far from perfect:

While Ultimate Wealth Package offers a free website, its only for beginners. The site is ill-suited for applying Mark Warrens more advanced strategies and you drop it once youre ready to go to the next level.

Probably the worst part of Ultimate Wealth Package is the expectations. Mark Warren has really shot himself in foot with this one folks. He pads his website with tons of stories of people making lots of money quick. This wont happen for most people. Dont be surprised if it takes a while for you to start earning an income. As I said earlier, success will take time and effort.

So what's the verdict?

Ultimate Wealth Package receives my full recommendation. The strategies it preaches can be used by both novices and experts. After using this product, you might realize that you dont like internet marketing. If thats the case, simply exercise UWPs 60 day money-back guarantee.

Just to let you know, prepare to learn a lot. Ultimate Wealth Package gave me my start in affiliate marketing and 2 days after buying it, I felt like my brain was going to explode. There was just so much information!! My advice to novices: dont get overwhelmed and discouraged. Just continue to practice Mark Warrens techniques and eventually, youll get the hang of it.

Besides working part-time in affiliate marketing, Daniel Gruda is also an IT professional who recently returned from Britain after teaching Information Technology. If you interested on any of the products, he reviews, you can access them on http://www.daniel-gruda-online.com (this is temporary website). 7 Days To Affiliate Marketing Mastery!

Are you struggling with your affiliate business? Discover how to become a super affiliate in seven days with a complete step-by-step affiliate marketing blueprint.

Many affiliates are not making any money with the programs they promote because they are simply making a lot of mistakes, which prevent them from bringing their affiliate marketing business to the next level.

The right affiliate strategy can help you make your first sale in one week, or more. It will depend on how much effort you put into the battle.

Follow these seven days to affiliate marketing profit and you should do well, and see your first affiliate sale very soon. When I saw that blueprint for the first time, I was skeptical; but when I saw commissions in my affiliate account, I knew that the process was working perfectly.

The problem is not in the process but with the affiliate marketer who didn't set a clear goal with a plan and didnt take action to achieve the success that many other super affiliates are enjoying.

So here is the plan that you must follow if you want to make your first commission in affiliate marketing...next week:

Day 1: Find a profitable market

Finding a profitable market is where most affiliates fail and then give up. It's not their fault, but nobody takes the time to explain that.

When you are starting, it is better to start with a huge market that is already profitable, like golf, weight loss, finance, self-help, beauty, sports, fitness...

Start by researching what those people want, what they are searching for on the Internet. For that, you will need a keyword research tool like Goodkeywords.com or Yahoo search marketing tool.

Day 2: Find an affiliate product for this market

Before finding the product, try to identify the needs of your targeted market. Your chosen product must be excellent; and you want to have a good commission that will reward you, motivate you and cover your affiliate campaign costs. You can start with clickbank.com or cj.com.

You must verify the sales page to see if it will convert your visitors into sales.

Day 3: Know and understand your product

Know that the goal of the affiliate is to pre-sell and not to sell. The merchant must sell his product, not you.

You should pre-sell (capture and warm up) your product to your subscriber. For that, you need to know the benefits of the product for your subscribers, and the best way to do that is to own the product.

Day 4: Prepare your advertising plan

Prepare your material: ads, articles, where you will advertise this affiliate program: Start with articles and pay-per-click traffic via Google Adwords.

Day 5: Prepare yourself to capture your prospects

You must not send your visitor to the merchant page, but you must capture his name and email address first, to secure your future affiliate commissions.

Day 6: Write your killer follow-up material

After capturing his email address, the pre-written message in your autoresponder will do the work for you and close the sale.

Day 7: Drive tons of traffic to your lead capture page

When everything is ready, start to advertise your affiliate program. Actually, you will show your lead capture (also called opt-in or squeeze page) page to the world, and take your future buyer's email address. One of the most effective ways to advertise it is to write articles.

Remember: the affiliate marketing process works, and it is perfect. But it will not work without you. So take action, and when you start to see your affiliate commissions, you will know that it is working; and you will be able to master the affiliate marketing game and become a super affiliate.

Work at Home -- Why Do People Fail?

The world of the business opportunity is growing at an ever-increasing rate. Fuelled by the modern desire to want more from life, especially wealth and freedom, people are seeking ways to escape from their corporate environment, their job, and employed status. The rewards are huge if successful; once a winning formula is discovered, it can be used to shape a whole lifetime. All of a sudden, choice and freedom are available. Having such an independent lifestyle can (and usually does) erase much of the stress and depression that exists in the lives of many people nowadays.

Those seeking this Holy Grail can spend a lot of money often thousands on ideas, or they can spend an inordinate amount of time devising their own plans.

Yet, it is a strange fact that very few of us who buy, or are given, or invent a business opportunity succeed.

Why is this?

Very often, of course, it is the actual business opportunity or plan that is used. Some exist simply to line the pockets of the writers not the readers. However, there are countless reliable, proven ways to build a very profitable business that can be run from home. Some people will run with an idea and become very successful and yet someone else, following the same plan, will not. Can the reasons for this be dependent solely on intelligence, experience, gender, race or genes? Surprisingly, no. What usually separates the winners from the losers is attitude and, in particular, the ability, or will, to act. The winners possess fearlessness or, at least, a resistance to the effects of the fear of failure.

The losers, very often manifest this fear into what is known as analysis paralysis: a tendency to keep trying to make a plan exactly right before executing (if we dont try then we cant fail). This is obviously a paradox; the very state of inaction produces the failure.

If any blame for ineffectiveness can be levelled at a plan in question, it is in the almost universal lack of emphasis on the importance to act. Action produces results, and from these results we can act again, thereby moving ever close to our destination.

So, if we want to progress with our chosen idea, then it helps to keep in mind that well-known advertising slogan: Just Do It!

Make Money Making Movies...

We are not going to kid you. Making money making movies is hard work and it doesn't come easy. This is the real deal: if you want to make a living from movies if not to be rich, you have to think business. Think about what the audience wants to see. It is NOT about what you want. This website provides a bunch of helpful articles to help you on your way of becoming a successful moviemaker.

Most feature films are produced either by the major Hollywood studios or by hundreds of U.S. and foreign independent production companies. The independents range from major companies just below the rank of the well-financed, all-purpose studios, to medium and small continuing companies, to firms that go bankrupt after just one production.

Since the introduction of DV technology, the means of production have become more independent; called independent filmmaking. Filmmakers can conceivably shoot and edit a movie, create and edit the sound and music, and mix the final cut on a home computer. However, while the means of production may be independent, financing, distribution, and marketing remain difficult to accomplish outside the traditional system.

Most independent filmmakers rely on film festivals to get their films noticed and sold for distribution. However, the Internet has allowed for relatively inexpensive distribution of independent films; many filmmakers post their films online for critique and recognition. Although there is little profitability in this, a filmmaker can still gain exposure via the web.

The filmmaking production cycle consists of five main stages: 1-Development, 2- Preproduction, 3-Production, 4-Post-production, 5-Distribution.

Technologies such as DVD, FireWire connections and professional-level non-linear editing system software make movie making relatively inexpensive.

Popular software (including commercial, consumer level and open source) includes: Avid Xpress Pro, Cinelerra, Kino, Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, iMovie, Sony Vegas,

Popular digital camcorders, mostly semi-professional equipment with 3-CCD technology, include: Canon, GL2 XL-1s, XL-2, Panasonic AG-DVX100/AG-DVX100A/AG-DVX100B , Panasonic AG-HVX200, Sony VX-1000/2000/2100, Sony PD-150/170. Most of these camcorders cost between US$2,000 - $5,000 in 2003, with costs continuing to decline as features are added, and models depreciate.

Additionally, open source software holds the potential for increasing high-level editing capabilities being available for also increasingly lower prices, both free and paid software. I would recommend to take a look at this website http://www.internetvideomag.com/index.htm.

Make 2007 the Best Year of Your Career

Yep, folks, its that time again--a time to set resolutions which we seem to assume we wont keep, a time to think about really getting the job of our dreams. Here are some ideas/steps for making 2007 the best year of your career. So, why not take 2-3 hours to think about how you can make 2007 the year of your career.

Acknowledge the Accomplishments of 2006

Begin by reviewing what really worked for you in 2006. What were your triumphs? What did you do that you were really proud of? Did you get a new account? Increase your sales? Streamline the systems in your job? What did you enjoy doing during the year? Identify the parts of the job that you really got a buzz out of. Write them all down. The chances are you will begin to remember triumphs and achievements that you had forgotten. Acknowledge them. Even if you think you had no triumphs--you survived without getting fired--that counts, as well.

Identify Your Strengths Know What You are Good At

What do you do really well? What do you do so well that its effortless for you and you assume any plonker could do it? What do other people give you really positive feedback on? These are some keys to your strengths. Another useful way to identify your own strengths is to take some of the psychometric tests available. Some of the better known ones are: DISC, Myers-Briggs and the Enneagram. Do a google for any of them, and you should be able to do one online free or for a reasonable price. Self-knowledge is a key component of finding your dream career. Knowing what you are not so good at is useful, as well.

Where Can You Contribute? Make the Present Better

Given that its unlikely that you will have an invite on Monday morning to your new job, what can you do in the meantime to improve your contribution to your current position. You could begin by simply asking your boss how you can serve the organization better. Admittedly he/she could be gobsmacked at first, but they probably will then be impressed, and this could help improve your relationship with them. Can you be kinder to other people in the office? What would be the one thing you could do in your job that would raise your game? How could you bring some of the strengths that you have identified to your current position? Are there any openings within the company where you could use these strengths? Could you reach out a helping hand to someone else? What can YOU do to make your workplace a better one for everyone?

Dream It and Then Do It

Imagine yourself a year from now in your dream job. Write down what you will be doing, what sort of environment you will be working in. Will you be working outdoors? In an office? Be as detailed as possible. Now, do you know anyone doing a job like this? See if you can organize to meet them. Ask your friends if they know anyone. People are generally very helpful. Ask if you can interview them about the positives and negatives of their position. This will give you a more realistic picture. Laura Berman Fortgang in her book Now What? 90 Days to a New Life Direction has an excellent section on this.

Paralysis by Perfection

One thing I hear from a lot of my clients is that they want to be sure this is the right job they will move to, they want to be sure they have identified the right career for them. And in the meantime, they moan and groan about their current position and agonize over what their perfect career might be. In our current world, you will probably change careers 4-5 times anyway, and you will learn something from every career choice. Identify what you want, whats non-negotiable for you, and if you get 100% of that and 80% of the rest and your gut feeling is good--go for it. Life is constantly presenting new opportunities and getting a new job is not for life: unlike a dog or a marriage.

The Vinyl Revival: Records Are Cool Again

Had the vinyl record finally met its match? In 1982, the compact disc was introduced to the music world and the record album was supposed to fade away like the dreaded eight track tapes that you may have heard your grandfather talk about.

But audiophiles, collectors, DJs and the artists who make the music had kept up the demand for vinyl records throughout the years. Then, came another challenge for the vinyl record: the music downloads...MP3 maniathe digital phenomenon, or whatever you choose to call it.

But something revolutionary is happening. Vinyl is cool again. Teenagers, who once scoffed at their parent's record collections, now wait in line to get the latest releases. In fact, according to the British Phonograph Industry (BPI), sales of 7" singles (45 rpm) surpassed the one million mark recently.

Now will this "revival" migrate across the Atlantic and push vinyl sales up in America? Will this be the next "British Invasion," albeit a different format? Time will tell, but if popular bands like the White Stripes, Primal Scream, Keane and indie favorites the Arctic Monkeys keep insisting their material is released via the seven-inch single, the teens who buy this music will keep responding and sales will continue to grow and so will the format.

Furthermore, it is not just the alternative bands or indie bands that release their material on vinyl. Mainstream artists like Neil Young, Madonna, Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and many more have continued to utilize this format and there is excitement about Beck's new album. Beck is taking a unique approach to album cover design, selling a blank cover with a choice of four sticker sheets individually designed by artists Jasper Goodall and Han Lee. Fans can make their own album covers.

What is the allure, the attraction to the clumsy, hard to handle records? As recent research suggests, some people are drawn in by the physical nature of the record, the actual handling of the music, the interaction between the person, the record and the phonograph. There is almost a ritual to the handling and playing of a phonograph record.

Young people have heard that records sound better than their sterile cd counterparts and digital downloads, now they are experiencing the true sound that vinyl records bring to the music. There is a certain warmth, an ambience that a vinyl record brings to the music. And since the human ear hears in analog sound, and not digital format, vinyl naturally sounds better. So this is the secret that all the audiophiles knew all along!

However, it isn't just teens who are buying vinyl records. People are also picking up the hobby of collecting records and baby boomers are buying albums they used to own when they were in high school. But it is not only the music that intrigues the masses. Album cover art has long been highly collectible and now you can have your favorite album framed into a beautiful piece of art! It is the best and the only way to preserve these wonderful treasures of musical history.

With this new interest in vinyl, the online community has responded. Besides the online auction sites, from mom and pop sites to major retailers, buying records online has become an irresistible source for record collectors or anyone interested in buying vinyl. Rare vinyl, once thought to be gone forever, is now resurfacing in online shops all over the Internet.

Will this trend continue? One can only guess, but the vinyl record, as prehistoric as it is; will never go out of style.

Ebooks Are Viral Promotional Powerhouses

Ebooks are part of the new frontier of cyberspace.

They are an entirely new medium for sharing marketing information, ideas, techniques, and expert knowledge.

Each day the number of people accessing the Internet grows, causing the exposure of your ebook to increase Incrementally and thus generating free viral traffic.

It's obvious why electronicself-publishing has become so popular so quickly.

The publishing industry, I hope, does not intend to forever banish the printed word to the dustbin of history. Books in print have their own special qualities and merits, and the world would be diminished by their disappearance.

Having said that, let's look at what makes ebooks so important and so unique. Ebooks have certain abilities and qualities that other mediums do not possess.

For example, ebooks are fairly easy to produce, and their production cost is inexpensive. Just think about it: you don't need a publisher, an agent, a printing press, offset film, ink, paper, or even a distributor.

You just need a great concept, the ability to write it or to hire a writer, and the right software.

Additionally, ebooks are easily and rapidly distributed online. They are also easily updated; they do not require a second print run. All you need is to go into your original creation and modify the text or graphics. Because of this flexibility, ebooks can change and grow as fast as you can type.

Ebooks are also immediately obtainable. You don't have to go to a bookstore or search through endless titles at an online bookstore. All you have to do is download it from a website, and presto! It's on your computer, ready to be read.

Ebooks are interactive. This is one of the most unique and specific qualities that ebooks offer. You can add surveys that need to be filled out, order forms for customers to purchase your products or goods, sound and video that draw your reader into the virtual world of your ebook, even direct links to relevant sites or Affiliate links that will expand your ebook outward.

The potential is virtually limitless.

Ebooks have a particular kind of permanence that other mediums do not possess. Television shows and radio shows air once, and then may rerun a few times. Ebooks remain on your computer for as long as your choose, and they can be read and reread whenever you choose to. They can even be printed out and stored on the shelves of your traditional home library.

Another wonderful quality is that ebooks have no barriers in terms of publishing. You don't need to go through the endless process of submitting your manuscript over and over again, and then once you land an agent, having the agent submit your manuscript over and over again. Nor do you have to shell out thousands of dollars for printing a self-published book. All ebooks require is a writer and appropriate software.

Figure out your market, write your book, post it on your website, and with the right business savvy, your audience will come to you.

Finally, you have creative control over your ebook.

You dont have to compromise with an editor or the publishing trends of the time. You don't have to haggle with a designer or wait for copyedited galleys to arrive by snail mail. You are in complete control of the design and the text.

How to Use ebooks for Marketing and Promotion

There are innumerable ways to use ebooks to promote your business and drive quality traffic to your website. Once posted on your site, you can turn them into a daily course, which brings your customer back to read the next chapter. You can use them as a free gift for making a purchase or for filling out a survey. Put your ebook on a disc, and you will have an innovative brochure. Blow your competition away by inserting the disc into your sales packages.

The most effective marketing products are those that are unique. Copyright your ebook, and immediately, you have a powerful tool that you, and you alone, can offer to the public. People will have to visit your site to acquire your ebook, which increases the flow of quality traffic and the potential of sales and affiliate contacts. Signing up with Clickbank, which Is a huge marketplace for ebooks can get your work Sold by literally Thousands of affiliates and create Tremendous viral traffic to your website and affiliate Links embedded within your ebook.

Make sure that you keep your ebook current. Update it frequently as the market and trends change. Add new advice and techniques to show your prospects how your goods or services can enrich their lives. By constantly keeping abreast of new trends and techniques, you can continue to see profits from your ebook for years after your original creation.

Another phenomenal advantage of ebooks is that you can test their marketing potential without putting out hardly any cash at all. You can even produce an ebook one copy at a time, each time you receive an order, eliminating the need for storage and inventory. By this method, you can gauge the saleablity of your ebook, and make adjustments as necessary until the orders start pouring in. Ebooks allow you to learn about your market and customer habits and motivation over a period of time, without risking your precious financial resources. They also provide you with an invaluable way to gather marketing information, which you can use in many different facets of your business.

Use your ebook to discover what the specific goals and problems are in your specific industry. Then figure out how to solve these problems, and publish an ebook with this invaluable information. This will increase the value of your business, upgrade your reputation, and get you known as an expert in your field.

You can extend the value of single ebook by breaking the book down into chapters for a serial course, into special reports available on your website, or into audio or visual tapes. Ebooks can be broken down into several different promotional materials by excepting some of the articles and using them to promote your product. You can include a catalog in your ebook to promote all the products or services you sell. You can include a thank-you note for reading your book and an invitation to download a trial version of your product. Or you can include a form for your audience to contact you for further information or with questions, thereby building your business relationships and your mailing list.

Using ebooks in this manner helps to cut the cost of individually producing separate promotional materials.

You can use a single ebook to entice new prospects and to sell new products to your current customers.

No other medium has this kind of flexibility and ability for expansion. Think of your ebook like a spider spinning a beautiful and intricate web. Now go and create that web, and see how many customers and prospects you can catch!

Bonus Rounds and Treasures

Ken Jennings, a software engineer from Salt Lake City, Utah, best known as Jeopardy's winningest contestant ever, became known this week for apparently biting the hand that has fed him very, very well. Personal comments on his website this past Monday criticized both the show's format and its long-time host, Alex Trebek. About the show itself: "You're the Dorian Gray of syndication. You seem to think 'change' means replacing a blue polyethylene backdrop with a slightly different shade of blue polyethylene backdrop every presidential election or so." About Mr. Trebek: "I know, I know, the old folks love him" After the media reacted negatively to his comments, calling him ungrateful, among other things, Jennings clarified his comments, saying he meant them as a "humor piece." Mr. Jennings stated that, "For the record, I've loved Jeopardy since I was a kid, as anyone who talks to me for more than five minutes knows. Making goofy jokes about TV shows isn't bashing. I believe it's the whole reason Al Gore invented the internet."

It seems to be a good thing Mr. Jennings amassed a solid nest egg from his time spent on that retro-fitted, old-fashioned program. His sense of humor may cost him more than he has bargained for.

In another way, the story of Colonel Bruce Hollywood is also about accumulated wealth and personal perspective. Earlier this year, Col. Hollywood awoke to crushing chest pain. As the highlights of his life flashed before him, he remembered his adoptive mother, who had already passed on, urging him to find his Japanese mother. And so, with some help from Ryoso Kato, the Japanese Ambassador to the United States, he did. USAToday.com reported that, "According to Hollywood and his mother, Nobue Ouchi, who was interviewed through an interpreter, their story is about a dream fulfilled and a rich life made richer."

Ms. Ouchi always knew she would see her son again. They met when Hollywood went to Japan in April, and she is visiting him this week. Col. Hollywood had enjoyed what he called a "charmed life." He was raised in a loving family, married and raised two children of his own, and thoroughly enjoyed his career. He reflected that, "At that moment when I looked back at my life, I really thought that in the game of life, I won. This whole new world opened up to me, and it's like I get to play a bonus round." His mother's dream came true, and his heart grew fuller.

Considering the stories of these two men, I am more sure than ever that money and publicity do not do anything more than highlight who we already are. I do not know Ken Jennings or Bruce Hollywood personally. But I do know who I would want to invite to my home for dinner and conversation.

My understanding of Jesus' reflections concerning treasures is also a little clearer now. "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:19-21)."

My Aunt Joanne used to quote this scripture during a key transition point in her life. Facing the reality that her aging parents would need additional care, she and my Uncle Bert decided to sell their much-loved home in Oak Lawn, a suburb of Chicago, and build a home in Orland Park, another Chicago suburb, that had room for the type of house they wanted to create that would accommodate everyone's needs. While they recognized the new subdivision as a place with larger lots and good floor plans, the marketing plan touted the affluence and prestige of the area. My poor aunt, trying to do right by her family, didn't want her motives to be misconstrued in any way, shape or form, by her friends, her family or her God. Her wealth had always been invested in her faith, and that's where she wanted to keep it.

My guess is that God doesn't particularly care how much money we accumulate over the years, but does care about how much richness we accumulate in our hearts over the course of our lifetimes. Jesus' words from Matthew's gospel aren't so much critical of those who pay attention to their finances, handling their money responsibly, as much as they are an opportunity to remember our priorities. Material wealth is a blessing born of the well-managed gifts of God's grace in our lives. If we begin to believe otherwise, somehow our hearts have shifted into believing we are running the show and have done everything in our lives on our own. Ken Jennings did achieve something extraordinary on Jeopardy, there is no denying that. But somehow the rich gifts he brought to that experience have become obscured in his attempt at humor at the expense of those who supported him in his efforts to reach his goal.

Bruce Hollywood and my Aunt Joanne seem to have gotten the balance right on this material riches versus the heart treasures that Jesus spoke of. I have no clue what my aunt's net financial worth was at the time of her death, or what Mr. Hollywood is worth on paper at this writing. But it is apparent to me who has been assisting them in amassing the great treasures in their hearts.

DXTradeBiz/ adsXposed Advantage

I noticed that after I purchased advertising for a domain registered by one of my associates, he was able to collect a percentage of the money I spent on the adsXposed campaign (der)!

adsXposed (for Business) is one of the most cost effective targeted PPC available for advertisers. The minimal amount needed per click is 0.005 USD!!! However, only Production Funds can be spent on advertising with DX.

The good news is that you can earn a rebate on your advertising if you have registered your own domain name that contains the target URL. A workaround for affiliate sites that are already registered by someone else in the DXTradeBiz is to set up a quick redirection from your own domain to the affiliate page. Easy, right?

It pays to 'strike whilst the iron is hot', since you only have six months to collect the maximum 30% commission per domain.

So theoretically, you would only be paying a minimum of 70% x 0.005 USD = 0.0035 USD per verified clickthru, or 3.50 USD per 1,000 verified clickthru's!!! It gets better, also. I have noticed that about 50% of clickthru's are unverified, ie. the visitor has already clicked another ad on the publisher's site. This means that you would get on average, 1,000 highly targeted clickthru's per 1.75 USD!!! THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE!!!

That totally slays AdWords, etc. in terms of affordability!!! Plus, click fraud possibility is GREATLY DECREASED thanks to; 1. low incentive for publishers, 2. adsXposed challenge reduces 'completed' clickthru's, 3. only one verified clickthru per IP (obviously).

This is just another example of how DXSynergy is/ is going to take the internet world by STORM!!!

OK, so let's take an example of a high quality product that costs the buyer 10.00 USD and returns you 5.00 USD profit. On average, 1 percent to 2 percent of people are going to buy your product. Let's be conservative and say 1 percent. Then you pay 2.00 USD for 1,000 clickthru's, takes about a month to get those.

10 people will buy your product. 10 x 5.00 USD is 50.00 USD, minus 2.00 USD = 48.00 USD profit. THAT'S A 2400% RETURN ON INVESTMENT!!!

These kinds of returns are realistic, provided you have an excellent product/ service.

7 Questions To Ask Yourself Before Starting A Business Blog

Blogging is the latest buzzword in online marketing and PR. But with so many marketers jumping on the blogging bandwagon, few people are giving a thought to whether blogs are really up their alley, or taking the time to consider the best ways of going about it.

If you are planning to start a business blog, ask yourself these questions before you take the final plunge.

1. Do you really need a blog?

Writing and maintaining a blog takes a certain degree of commitment, as well as a passion (or at least a liking) for stringing words into a decent sentence. If you don't enjoy writing that much, you could always create an audio or video blog.

But would your business objectives really be served by starting a blog? Or could other methods of online marketing - like SEO, ezine advertising or newsletter publishing work just as well, if not better?

2. Whom do you want to reach with your blog?

The first step to reaching your audience is understanding where they go to find information about your products.

If your audience largely consists of people who live in your town or use products that they search for in the newspapers, offline advertising might be more suited to your purpose.

If however, your target audience belongs to one or more of these segments, a blog might be just the thing to boost your business.

- Internet users

Does your target audience really use the internet? If not, then starting a blog (or any online activity, for that matter) will just be a huge waste of time and effort.

- Blog readers

Does your target audience read blogs? Or do they prefer to get their information in their inbox? If the latter is true, then an email newsletter might be a better option than a blog.

- Search engine users

A blog is an excellent way to boost your search engine rankings and get listed for a lot of your target keywords. If you know that your audience uses search engines to find information, a blog will increase your chances of getting their attention.

3. What do you want to achieve with your blog?

There are a lot of things that a blog can do for your business. Blogs can help you...

- Increase your visibility and search engine rankings

- Brand yourself, your products, your services, your company

- Build a community and network with people who have similar interests

- Expand your reach to those outside your current sphere of influence

- Establish your credibility as an expert or thought-leader in your field

- Put a human face on your business

- Reach out to potential customers and stakeholders

Deciding exactly what you want to achieve with your blog can help you get focused, so that you can spend your time and effort in activities that help, not hinder your business objectives.

4. How much time can you spend on your blog?

Serious business bloggers not only spend time writing their own blogs, but also spend a great deal of time reading up on current events and browsing other blogs in their field for information.

If you are prepared to put in the time and effort required to do that sort of research, your blog will serve as a good branding tool for your business. If not, you should either hire someone to do the research or seriously rethink your decision to start a blog.

5. What blogging platform will serve your needs best?

Deciding your blogging platform is an important step that you should take only after becoming familiar with the features and benefits of each option.

The reason it is so crucial is because it can be extremely difficult to migrate an established blog to a new platform once you have started it. Moving your blog can result in you losing your data, search engine listings and readers, so don't take this decision lightly.

Decide which platform will best meet your marketing objectives, time constraints and personal preferences before you make your first post.

If you are short of time, and want to spend more time writing, then a hosted solution like Blogger, Blogware, Squarespace or Typepad might serve your purpose better.

This might also prove a better option if you want to get started as soon as possible, are new to the internet, or are unfamiliar with scripts or code.

If, on the other hand, you're a control freak and don't mind spending some time and effort to customize your blog, then a server-installed software, like Wordpress, b2Evolution or Movable Type might be just right for you.

If you don't want to install the scripts yourself, choose a hosting solution with Fantastico, which comes with a one-click install of a number of blogging software.

6. How do you plan to promote your blog?

Why is it good to know this before you start your blog? Because it will help you decide where best to invest your time and effort when you need to build traffic to your blog.

You'll learn more about the methods to promote your blog later in this eCourse. Some of these tasks can be outsourced, while others you will have to do yourself.

Decide what you want to take on and look out for service providers to handle the other functions so you can start building traffic to your blog as soon as possible.

7. How will you assess the success of your blog?

To determine how successful your blog is in boosting your profile or profits you will have to measure your blog traffic and track sales or leads that have come through it.

Planning this in advance will help you take more informed decisions about your blogging metrics, choice of blogging platform and degree of customization you require on your blog.

Understand that blogging is not for everyone. It's just another form of communication. Don't get so hung up on the technology that you end up ignoring more appropriate ways of communicating your message.

Some things may be easier to communicate face to face, in a conference room, or even through the good old telephone.

But if you asked yourself all the questions above and decided that blogging meets all your objectives, then a blog may be just what the doctor ordered for your business.

How Not to Get the Dreaded Termination Email from Google

Recently Google went on a banning spree. Hundreds, possibly thousands of webmasters got a short email from Googles Adsense department informing them of their accounts termination. One only has to look through any popular webmaster message boards and tales of woe abound from those cast off the island.

The cleaning up of the Adsense publisher base seems to have given rise to alternate Adsense programs. Some of these, while boasting better payouts, might not have the same ad quality as Adsense. If youre no longer a part of Adsense or just want to try something new, you can find some of these alternates in a downloadable format on my site or on the web by searching.

There are ways to prevent your account being terminated. One should always familiarize themselves with Adsense TOS (Terms of Service) and send Google and email on any situations youre unsure about. Some of the better known ways to avoid termination are:

* Check your server logs frequently for any abnormal activity. If youre using cPanel, I recommend AWstats. Looks for abnormal spikes in traffic on days and compare against your CTR on Adsense. Anything that looks fishy ask Google to investigate. You might want to offer the use of your server logs for their investigation at the same time.

* Use monitoring software to track clicks on your site. You can get this free by searching online. There are a few out there. Ill compile a list of the more popular ones in a later entry. You can use this to help Google get rid of click fraud by catching suspicious activity first and reporting it to them.

* Dont click on your own ads or encourage others to do the same. Goes without saying. Also avoid checking your Adsense account on public machines or from behind a proxy with any number of users. Should another user on a public machine click on your ads then it registers as an owner click since the IPs are the same. Same goes for machines behind a proxy. Lets say you work in a company with a few hundred users and have an internal network. In all likelihood the external IPs are a small range. This means that Google will see only the IP addresses that are assigned by the companys service provider. If anyone else on that network clicks on your ads, you stand a chance of being banned as Google will see the clicks coming from the same place.

* Dont put Adsense ads on empty pages or with adult or gambling content. Again, self explanatory. Google will catch you sooner than you think. Just remember, their technology can display ads based on your content. If your content is against their TOS, youre gone. This also includes having their ads on pup-ups or pop-unders, be careful with this one if youre purchasing traffic. Use of artificial means of traffic generation such as traffic exchanges will get you kicked out. Some successful blog owners have suggested using traffic exchanges before putting Adsense on your site. This way you get some exposure and maybe some repeat vistors before you implement Adsense.

* If you make a mistake. Let them know. If its really an honest mistake and you havent been clicking on your own ads for a while then you should be able to get a reprieve. Its easier than asking for reinstatement.

To close, these are just some points to follow. Google can change their TOS at anytime and they do seem to ban people in certain periods more heavily. Some say near the 15th which is their payout date. Keep your nose clean and you should be able to continue making Adsense work for you.

Get The Money Out of the Way

There are handshake deals and then there are contracts. How do you operate? Do you put everything in writing before you start working on a client project? Do you ask for a deposit up-front?

In the past four years I have been running my business, I have always received payment from my clients. Of course, there have been a few bounced cheques along the way, but no financial losses. One of the most valuable lessons I learned while training for my business was to get every client to sign a contract before working with them. My classmates and I were given a sample contract to review. This particular contract was specific for consulting services perfect for my business.

From that day onward I used that contract as a template after customizing it slightly for my own purposes. The contract was general enough that I could use most of its content. When a client signs a contract, the project then becomes official. Without a contract or a deposit up-front, you put yourself in a vulnerable position. And yet, when I first work with a client, I dont always get a contract, especially if I am conducting a marketing assessment. Why? Because this project starts as an initial meeting, which is as far as the relationship might go. Under these circumstances, the client pays the entire cost of the assessment on that day. If there is no cheque cut, then I do not write the marketing assessment report.

It is after this assessment that I have a clear idea of what the client needs. Then it is easy to draft both the proposal and a contract. Although I would like to paint a perfect picture of myself for you, I have to admit that there are times when I dont take the contract route. This is merely a personal decision in the moment, and I would not recommend it. Most of my clients get billed up-front every month in the form of a retainer payment. I then proceed to work with them by creating, implementing and testing marketing initiatives. Conversely, I have other clients who use my services on an as-needed basis. These are often clients who received a marketing assessment, and now want to hire me to work on a small project.

An example of this would be project-managing a new website for a client. Under these circumstances, the client does not sign a contract; we have a verbal agreement that each month they pay me upon invoicing. I work a specific amount of hours and then bill accordingly. These clients are usually micro businesses (less than four employees) as opposed to small businesses, so I am more flexible with them. Am I taking a risk? Most of the time I dont feel that I am, because they have a good track record of paying me within a reasonable time frame. I minimize my risk by working with only one or two micro businesses under this payment structure at any given time.

The other exception to signed contracts is for my long-term clients. Once they have signed a contract for twelve months, I may work on a verbal arrangement after the first year. I call it trust; some might call it lazy. If I have a good long-term relationship with a client and they are paying their monthly retainer consistently, then for me, a written contract becomes less necessary.

What I suggest for those of you just starting up your business, is put systems in place from day one, so you can be really clear with your clients how you would like to get paid and what terms apply. The clearer you are with your clients from the beginning, the less likely you will run into difficulties with getting paid. Getting paid is one thing, and getting paid on time is another. The last thing you want to do is spend your valuable time chasing down money owed to you. It is emotional and exhausting. I would rather let go of a client that does not respect my payment schedule than sit around praying for the money to show up.

When it comes to money, eliminate as much stress around getting paid as possible. I find that in order to give my clients 100 percent, I cant be worrying about when they are going to pay me next. I get money issues out of the way first, and then I can put my focus into providing clients with the best service possible.

Find out what billing and payment standards are common in your industry. Either go with that or create a new system that works for you. The less time you spend thinking about getting paid, the more energy you have to invest in a great relationship with your clients.

Banks Finally Forced To Payout

As a result of a directive from the Financial Services Agency, Banks in the United Kingdom are now being instructed to return fees to clients they are deemed to have overcharged. This is of major significance to those involved within the areas of Debt Management, Debt Settlement and Bankruptcy in general as these figures could be quite substantial overall

Long overdue, this affair could cost in excess of 300 million at the end of the day. Part of the problem lies with potential conflict of interest scenarios whereby the conveyancing quite often is carried out by the Banks own appointed Panel Solicitor who are unlikely to question too deeply any of the banks own imposed charges. The Lawyers feel that there quite often is case for being removed from a lenders panel if they were to question the ethics of the transaction and to be honest it is always better to have an independent conveyancing professional supervise this type of transaction anyway.

To put it simply, the problem is as follows. At the outset of any agreed Mortgage or Loan there is always the fine print that entails what additional charges there are that need to be settled in the event of early settlement. Its funny this (actually its tragic but that is another issue) but these issues are very rarely to be seen when they are busy trying to prostitute themselves into trying to get you to do a deal with them in the first place.

Back to the matter in hand, the points referred to, cover a wide variety of issues and one of which relates to the cost of early redemption of the mortgage. This last fact is quite ludicrous as if they havent made enough out of you during the term of the deal but that is another issue. The bottom line is that your lender shouldnt make alterations to your agreed amounts without your prior acceptance of these changes. If they do (which some of them have done) then you should complain to the Financial Services Watchdog the Financial Ombudsman.

If you think you have spotted any changes then the first thing you and/or representative should do is go through your original agreement with a fine tool. If they are insisting on more and have dreamed up some spurious excuse for this and you dont agree then threaten them with the Watchdog and dont take this lying down! If they refuse or give you some sort of lousy explanation that we all know smells then complain and threaten them with the Ombudsman. This usually is enough to get them to cough up the money as at the end of the day none of our glorious financial institutions likes the bad publicity of being dragged through the Courts and also the papers!

As in all areas of negotiations then as a matter of course do not accept the first offering that they deign to throw at you. I have a client who has just settled a matter with the UKs largest Mortgage lender (you know who you are) over a dispute over interest charges and they initially offered him a derisory 25 compensation figure and when the agreement was finally settled it end up at 379!

So the moral of the story is? Always (repeat always several times) check the fine print of any contract before you sign it and if someone tries to slip something past you without you knowing and you find out? The sooner that you disabuse them of this notion, the better for you and for some of the other silent borrowers that these institutions have either ripped off over the years or are trying to rip off now! Howl and complain as loud as you can!
